Raging Bull recipe

1 oz Kahlua® coffee liqueur

1 oz sambuca

1/2 oz tequila

Layer in a shot glass; in order.

Some friends who go by the name of the Lost Boys of the Desert Wastelands have been kind enough to try out many of the potions that we've researched and documented here in my journal. They requested that we step things up a bit here and produce more. Either that means that they still haven't found the perfect potion for their gatherings or it means that they've gotten completely hammered together and are looking to push the envelope even further into the metaphysical alcoholism that we tend to promote in our studies. Either way, it seems that they are deserving of a potion that was researched with them in mind.

Most of the potions that have been documented here deal with individual powers. This next potion is made for a gathering just like theirs. It's ancient native american history, carries back to a time when the family and the tribe meant everything.

Prior to the influx of Europeans on the shores and lands of the Americas, Native Americans held close in a belief that anything difficult done together would strengthen the bond of the tribe. A ritual was founded and a potion accompanied it that would do just that. That ritual and the aforementioned potion are called the Raging Bull. When done properly, this potion and ritual will summon the great bull spirit so that a tribe may hunt the beast and grow closer as a group as they take on that difficult task.

Since time immemorial, this potion has been passed down through families and the secrets of the ingredients passed along with it. Tequila has been distilled using ancient methods now used by Jose Cuervo, and the shaman of every tribe was skilled in the art of purchasing Sambuca and Kahlua from prehistoric liquor stores. It is said that it was the later attempts of this ritual that led to a strong increase of alcoholism in native americans after the influx of the white man but that could be heresay.

The tribe or group attempting this ritual should gather in a circle...preferably around a large table or bar as they did in the ancient times. One bottle of each ingredient should be set on the table along with a shot glass for each member of the tribe. The area should be spiritually cleansed either by burning sage incense or by at least one or two of the tribal members smoking a few cigarettes (or whatever else you smoke).

When the table and surrounding area is properly cleansed, the tribe is seated around the bottles and begins to chant the summoning of the Raging Bull in their own language. I've shown here first the chant in Native American Lakota then ummm loosely translated below it into a workable English:

"Unkis kipa tatanka...Unkis olepi tatanka...Unkis ihakob caku tatanka tatukce"

In English - "We summon the bull, we hunt the bull, we follow the trail of ...bullshit."

This should be repeated again and again (with as little laughter as possible) while the elder pours the potions.

Layer the potion in this way:

1st layer - 1oz Kahlua

2nd layer - 1oz Sambuca

3rd layer - 1 half oz Tequila

The elder should pour the ingredients slowly so they stay seperated.

When the potions are poured for each member, everyone shouts a cry of pride or joy (yeah!, hazzah!, hooray!, Hell yes!, etc - whatever feels right) and the whole tribe drinks as one. This continues until either signs of the bull or the bull itself is seen. Then the hunt can commence. A successful hunt means that the tribe will be together forever, though it is said that if the bull isn't hunted down or even seen very clearly, the ritual itself and the repeated doses of the potion will still create a strong bond among the tribe that will last for many moons.

Side Effects: The strength of the bond created among the tribe is equal in proportion to the amount of potion taken and therefore equally proportionate to the amount each member will feel like they have been run down by a bull (or bus) the next day. Face your illness in pride knowing that every time you vomit or feel like dying in the following days, that you are a stronger tribe for it and that most of the group would surely show up to comfort you if they weren't feeling just as miserable themselves. Any group attempting this ritual and potion should already have a bond and the desire to make it stronger. A loose group of people without friendship attempting this ritual can deteriorate quickly into arguments, fights and in rare cases drunken brawls or murder. That however has it's own rewards.
